Use this AP coordinator calendar to plan your school’s AP Exam administration and keep track of deadlines.

Annual Calendar and Deadlines

  • Plan your exam administration. AP coordinators, teachers, and school leaders should discuss the testing options and make tentative decisions about which to use. More details.
  • Read the 2020-21 AP Coordinator’s Manual, Part 2. The coordinator’s manual explains the policies and procedures for administering paper and pencil exams.
  • Prepare special equipment or procedures. Review and reserve the equipment required for exams that need special preparation or are administered with accommodations.
  • Check in with the SSD coordinator to review any accommodations requests that have been changed or that haven’t been approved.
  • Begin updating exam orders. Starting this month, AP coordinators can use AP Registration and Ordering to update the testing date for each AP student, if needed. Instructions will be available in early March. After March, schools will continue to have the option to schedule students for digital testing if testing in the school building is no longer possible.
  • 3/x: Digital testing update. We’ll provide the AP Digital Testing Guide and additional details on digital testing, including: instructions for AP coordinators for assigning students to later exam dates, technical requirements, how students will access exams, accommodations, readiness procedures and practice options, and proctoring instructions for digital exams administered in schools.
  • 3/12, 11:59 p.m. ET: AP Exam order deadline for AP courses that begin after November 13. Submit new exam orders by this deadline.
  • Check exam registrations. Before March 12, review any students listed as No or Undecided in AP Registration and Ordering and check with them to confirm their exam plans.
  • AP Course Audit website begins accepting submissions for new courses offered for the 2021-22 school year. Learn more about AP Course Audit.
  • 4/30, 11:59 p.m. ET: Deadline to indicate students’ fee reduction status in AP Registration and Ordering.
  • Receive exam materials. AP coordinators receive shipments of exam materials and AP ID label sheets. The AP ID label sheets will be sent in a separate shipment from your exam materials. Check all shipments for accuracy. Contact AP Services for Educators if there are any problems.
  • Appoint the required number of proctors and hold a proctor training session. See the proctor training script in the 2020-21 AP Coordinator’s Manual, Part 2.
  • Explain prohibited devices policy. Send a strong message to students that cell phones and other prohibited electronic devices aren’t allowed in the testing room.
  • Remind AP Art and Design teachers to forward students’ digital portfolios to you well in advance of the May 20, 11:59 p.m. ET deadline.
  • Arrange for the setup of desks, tables, and chairs, if needed.
  • Review the details of the exam schedule, proctors, rooms, and required equipment.
  • Meet with SSD coordinator to review the details of exams administered with accommodations.

Administration 1 dates: May 3–7, May 10–12, May 14, May 17
Administration 2 dates: May 18–28

  • Check testing sites. Make sure the testing sites and testing rooms meet exam security requirements and have the necessary desks, tables, chairs, and equipment on exam day.
  • Administer paper and pencil exams as outlined in the 2020-21 AP Coordinator’s Manual, Part 2 and the 2020-21 AP Exam Instructions book.
  • Switch students to Administration 2 digital exams if needed. AP coordinators can switch students with existing exam orders to Administration 2 digital exams until 11:59 p.m. ET 7 calendar days before the scheduled digital exam date. For example, AP Macroeconomics is scheduled for Wednesday, May 19, during Administration 2. The deadline for an AP coordinator to switch the student to this exam in AP Registration and Ordering is 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 12 (7 calendar days before the exam).
  • 5/7: Switch students to Administration 2 paper exams (outside U.S.). This is the last day for AP coordinators outside of the United States to switch students with existing exam orders to paper and pencil and/or Chinese and Japanese exams in Administration 2.
  • 5/14: Switch students to Administration 2 paper exams (U.S.). This is the last day for AP coordinators in the United States to switch students with existing exam orders to paper and pencil and/or Chinese and Japanese exams in Administration 2.
  • Students complete setup for Administration 2 digital exams before exam day. Setup will be available 3 days before exam day and must be completed no later than the day before the exam.
  • 5/20, 11:59 p.m. ET: Deadline for AP Art and Design Portfolio Submission. Deadline to forward AP Art and Design digital portfolios to the AP Program. Learn more about digital submission for AP Art and Design.
  • 5/20, 11:59 p.m. ET: Deadline for AP CSP Create Performance Task submission. Learn more about digital submission for AP Computer Science Principles.
  • 5/20, 11:59 p.m. ET: Deadline for AP Capstone performance task submission. Learn more about digital submission for AP Capstone Diploma Program courses.
  • 5/26: Switch students to Administration 3 paper exams (all locations). This is the last day for AP coordinators to switch students with existing exam orders to paper and pencil and/or Chinese and Japanese exams in Administration 3.
  • Switch students to Administration 3 AP Exams. AP coordinators can switch students with existing exam orders to Administration 3 digital exams until 11:59 p.m. ET 7 calendar days before the scheduled digital exam date. For example, AP Biology is scheduled for Friday, June 11, during Administration 3. The deadline for an AP coordinator to switch the student to this exam in AP Registration and Ordering is 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, June 4 (7 calendar days before the exam).
  • Students complete setup for Administration 3 digital exams before exam day. Exam setup will be available 3 days before exam day and must be completed no later than the day before exam day.
  • Remind students to indicate free score report recipient. Students need to indicate the recipient for their free score report through My AP by June 20.
  • Return exam materials for Administrations 1 and 2. Deadlines for returning AP Exam materials differ according to how many exams were ordered.

Administration 3 Dates: June 1–11

  • Switch students to Administration 3 AP Exams. AP coordinators can switch students with existing exam orders to Administration 3 digital exams until 11:59 p.m. ET 7 calendar days before the scheduled digital exam date. For example, AP Biology is scheduled for Friday, June 11, during Administration 3. The deadline for an AP coordinator to switch the student to this exam in AP Registration and Ordering is 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, June 4 (7 calendar days before the exam).
  • Students complete setup for Administration 3 digital exams before exam day. Exam setup will be available 3 days before exam day and must be completed no later than the day before exam day.
  • 6/7: Deadline for schools to ship exam materials. This is the final deadline for schools to ship back exam materials. Schools are billed twice the fee for each exam in shipments returned after this date. This is an update to the previous deadline of June 1 for the AP Program to receive materials. This deadline has been updated due to the change in the 2021 exam schedule.
  • 6/20: Deadline for students to indicate or change the recipient of their free score report through My AP. Students only indicate the recipient for their free score report through My AP.
  • Access your invoice through AP Registration and Ordering.
  • 6/25: Postmark deadline for exam payment and invoices to the AP Program. Late payments incur a $225 fee. Learn more about the invoice process.
  • Enter 2022 AP Exam dates on 2021-22 school calendars.
  • Administrations 1 and 2 score release. AP score reports are available to designated colleges, students, high schools, and districts for students who took exams during Administrations 1 and 2.
  • Administration 3 score release. AP score reports are available to designated colleges, students, high schools, and districts for students who took exams during Administration 3.
